I’m considering the wood dash kit for the ’99 also.  I’ve found two sources
so far… Performance Buyers Club and Duetto Motors.  The PBC kit appears to
be plastic, but the Duetto kit says it’s real wood.  Does anyone know if
Duetto’s dash kit is a good product?  I don’t want to spend 255 for a piece
of junk.

Oh yes.  It’s been offered on Japanese Roadsters for several years, including
for the ’99.

I had a gorgeous Razo leather shift knob on my ’90—it took two years to wear
through the leather cover.  Rings tend to scratch leather (and wood).

As far as the console kits go, look at them in person before you buy.
All that I have seen are thin veneers over paper, and except for the

they don’t look great either, And they are expensive-$240 and up. I am
having a wood kit custom made for my 97 and I am using 1/4" walnut
burl, planned from a board 1" thick. Of the kits I have seen, Madera
offers the best, and I think Miata Mania has them-at $380! Their

If you get a MOMO knob, try to get one from Miata Mania as theirs
screw directly on, and the MOMO universal adapter is a nuisance.

I can’t find Allan’s website in Belgium (miata list people know him as
the guy who loves chrome) but he has a custom made kit for his car,
which is what I am going for.

I don’t have a Nardi catalog, not do they have a web page (do they?)  Does
Nardi make a black leather shift knob and brake handle to match the new 99
steering wheel?  Is a leather shift knob undesirable?  I haven’t decided
