I was told that the gizmo on the driver side wiper arm is an air foil of
sorts that seeks to keep the windshield wiper blade closer to the
windshield at increasing speeds…stabilizes it and facilitates more rapid
and efficient removal of water from driver side of w.shield…who knows?

That’s exactly correct. I added my own home made spoiler to my (then new)
’68 Mustang, because the driver’s side wiper tended to lift entirely off
the windshield over 80 mph.

If you want the ultimate wiper arm gizmo, nothing beats the single arm
conversion bracket. It sells at 4500yen and it allows the left side
wiper arm move entire windshield area effectively eliminating the use of
the right side wiper arm. Since the proper single wiper converion kit
cost 16000yen I rekcon it’s better deal if you don’t mind to source the
20" wiper blade and straight wiper arm – FC3S rear window wiper arm for
example.
