Vibrations at 30-32 mph

I have had a vibration in my ’97M since I acquired it used a number of months ago.  I am bringing this problem up now because I just replaced all four of the tires with Bridgestone RE730′s  and had the car aligned and the problem did not go away.

I cannot seem to figure out where the problem is?  Does anyone have a suggestion on how to diagnose this problem?

If you didn’t, make sure you take your car to a precision alignment place,
not a chain store or Wal-Mart.  Ask them to do a precision balance and
alignment.  As long as the car was not in a major accident, it should make
    the shimmy go away.

Again, make sure this is done by a shop that -only- does tires and
    alignments.

You might try getting the wheels checked for "roundness".  If they’re out of
round, you’ll get a vibration.  Also, sometimes tires are not perfectly
round – that’s something else you could get checked.

    Good luck.

    Perhaps…. tyre pressure matters ???

You might want to check your driveshaft and engine/tranny mounts.

The car has a sensitivity to wheel problems that shows up at about
65 mph and less strongly at half that speed.  Your speed indicates this
is the problem.  The suggestions about flat spotting, balancing, and
changing the tire pressure might all do the trick.  But since changing
tires did not resolve it, maybe you should also carefully check your
rims for damage.  There is a description at miata.net, BTW.

Thanks for the tip on Miata.net.  I have had the new tires balanced and therefore will next check the rims.

I think it was interesting how you related the 65 mph issue with my 32.5 mph issue.  Thanks.

Yes, I had some goodyear tires that were so  out of round they couldn’t
be balanced.  I could jack up the car, spin the wheels and see they were
at least 3/8" out of round.  Came from the dealer on a new car and I got
the runaround from goodyear, the dealer finally gave me a new set of
tires.  I will never buy goodyear again.
