Sebring Help Please

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:33 pm

First of all, I’m not at all interested in the pros and cons of supercharger
and turbo…so let’s not go there  :)   I’m looking for a few Sebring owners I
can ask some specific questions of as I try to decide to or not to get one.
Can anyone help, please?

  1. I know it’s not a Miata, but I have a Sebring kit on my CRX (177,000 miles on
the bottom end, fresh head). Short answer: it kicks butt. Perfect street setup.
No lag. Car pulls all the way to redline (and I have the dyno sheets to prove
it). Idles like a stock motor. 28 mpg in town, 32.5 on the highway. I installed
in myself in my garage, and I’m not a mechanic. Car is still 100% driveable.
Hasn’t pinged or bucked once. My 1.6 SOHC now feels more like a 2.5L V6 (Probe
    GT, etc.)

Cons: Um… can’t really think of any. You need to run super unleaded, which
isn’t that bad. Under full boost, the car goes rich–good so you don’t melt a
piston, but the bumper does get soooty. P21S cleans it up. EGT and boost gauges
are on the way so I can better monitor the situation.

I’m playing with a Crane boost-sentive igntion system and hope to have more
data in a week or so.

I have driven several Sebring-equipped Miatas plus two Sebring BMWs, and I
loved them all. Z3 Sebring is also a kick in the pants. I have driven two stock
’99 Miatas in the past week, and now they feel weird without the supercharger.
    I guess I’m just jaded.

We did a big Miata comparo a few issues ago (had three Sebring cars there in
the mix) that may also answer some questions.

I have one.  What do you want to know?  Also try the FAQ specific
to Sebrings at miata.net.  I think it’s under "tech" "engine"
"supercharger FAQ".  And http://www.supercharger.com for their side
of the story, though they do include installation documentation
    including good pictures.

    Mine is at http://pw1.netcom.com/~gt9823b/gadget3.htm
Though it may appear there isn’t anything there that isn’t at
other sources, try the "engine2" button…

I have seen about 3 or 4 others who have posted here who run
    Sebrings.
