I don’t know for sure if that’s how it supposed to work; but my ’99 works
exactly the way you describe, so I’m guessing that’s how it is. No
gratuitous display of gallantry shall go unpunished! ;-)

yup, I realized that at the time I took the test drive. I was looking for the
automatic door locks also but I forgot to ask the salesperson about it. I
don’t know if this is a good feature but I think we should just leave the
passenger side lock alone but there should be an individual switch
somewhere..
This may become a minor complaint.
