Re: Boot vs Glass rear window

That’s an after market glass window. Don’t know how tight the boot will be.
I don’t think glass windows came stock until the M2′s.

Coolant loss : how would one know?

Hi group,

This weekend I found & fixed a second leak in the coolant system of my ’92
Miata. The first one was a hole in the T-shaped thing under the thermostat,
the second was was caused by a crack in the water hose on the back of the
engine under the spark coil (I _hate_ that lower bolt!).

In both cases, I spotted the leak in a very early stage when no harm to the
engine was done.

But what would happen if I didn’t notice? How would a Miata warn it’s
driver?

Would the temp needle drop back as if the engine was cold? Is there a temp
sensor mounted on the block that will bring up the "check engine" light?
Or…?

Misfiring when hot

I’m having some misfiring problems with our 1992 Miata.

The car:
1992 Miata, 1.6L, 232,xxx miles. Changed plugs and wires last summer
at about 215,000 miles. Also did timing belt, water pump, seals, etc
at that time.

The problem:
When warm, engine misfires badly between 2000 and 3000 RPM’s. It’s
fine at higher RPMs. It doesn’t misfire when the engine is cold. It
doesn’t misfire when there is no load on the engine. The problem is
worse starting from a traffic light after sitting for the cycle of the
light. Sometimes it will misfire going up hill in higher gears when
the engine speed is around 2000-2500 RPMs.

The plugs and wires are only a year old, so I’m thinking that these
shouldn’t be the problem. They were brand new NGK plugs and wires that
I put on. I did have one defective spark plug, but after replacing
that, it ran fine until a few weeks ago.

The tachometer reads absolutely steady when the misfire occurs, so I
don’t think the problem is in the cam position sensor or any of the
low voltage side of the ignition system. Actually, I’m still not sure
whether the problem is fuel related or spark related.

Any ideas on what I should test and what might be causing this? I was
thinking of hooking up a volt meter to the oxygen sensor and seeing
how it reacts when the engine is misfiring. Wouldn’t a serious rich
condition during the misfires would tend to indicate an ignition
problem, and a serious lean condition would more likely be fuel
related?

Thanks in advance for any advice or tips.

Brake Pad brand

Were Bendix MKD525′s the OE pads on new 1993 Miata’s? What pads would
you folks recommend for a moderately hard driver with a stock Miata?

Thanks

three window top for 2000 LS?

Hi All,
I want to replace the top on my 2000 LS with a three window variety to
gain better vision for lane changes. Could anyone recommend such a
top?

Alternatively, could the original top be modified to a 3-window
design?

TIA, richard

Ignition Harness

I’m looking for an ignition harness for an alarm install on ’97 Miata.
Closest I’ve come was crutchfield.com, but they said it was specific
to their alarms.

Can anyone give me a brand name, part number, and/or store where they
purchased an ignition harness for a Miata?

Thanks much,

Glenn

Mazda Parts

Hi, I am new to this group, I do not own a Miata, I am actually restoring a
929 Coupe, 1984 vintage.

Is there a spare parts source in the US or elsewhere other than the regular
Mazda dealers?

I live down under and Mazda parts must be gold plated down here, they are
quite expensive.

Chris

PURPOSE of unidirectional tires ????

I read periodically about UNIDIRECTIONAL tires.

WHY do they exist ???

Sounds to me like Chrysler’s silly experiment with L and R lugnuts back in the
60s. Such a great idea they no longer do it. The wheels didn’t fall off after
they did what most if not all other manufacturers did – make all wheel studs R
hand thread.

Mechanics were always snapping bolts during removal with high powered airguns.

TIA
