Ill-fitting hard top

I had a test drive of an MX-5 which is on sale at the local Mazda dealer.
The car has a hard top, and whilst driving it I noticed quite a lot
of wind noise. Further investigation revealed that there was a
gap between where the hard top meets the header rail (top of the
windscreen) between the two attaching clips.
The salesman told me that this could be adjusted, but I’m
not so sure.

Is this a common problem, and can it be adjusted or has the hard top
become out of shape?

It can likely be adjusted.  On the latches, there are rider nuts (hidden
inside a plastic clip that keeps them from rotating when you don’t want
them to) that you turn to tighten or loosen the latch.  If the latches
are adjusted too loose, there’s nothing to hold the top against the
    header.

However, this is not to say that there might not be damage.  Check it
out.  Demand that the salesman adjust them.  If he can’t make it right,
then perhaps the top or head rail has been damaged and no longer fits
    well.

            Good luck,

Is there something else that makes this car special??  Two different books
I checked says it should be worth between $9,000 and $11,000 Canadian.
They are not even that high at the dealership. My cousin has the same car
and she only paid $17,500 new in 1990.
