Help Trunk won't unlock

Neither my main key, nor my spare key, will unlock the trunk.  It, of
course, has always been difficult to unlock but a slight pressure on the
trunk usually does the trick.  Now it won’t budge.  Anyone else had this
problem?  Will a locksmith be able to get it open?  Is there any way to
get in the trunk from the passenger compartment?   Help!

You didn’t mention if the lock was turning or not.  If it is not turning,
the liklihood is that it is either frozen, or perhaps suffered some other
mechanical malfunction.  If the lock begins to turn but meets with
resistance that cannot be overcome without breaking the key, then maybe
it’s the latch mechanism that’s to blame.

If the lock is frozen (water ice), thawing it with a hot key (using butane
lighter, or other heat source), alcohol de-ice fluid, etc. should work.
Failing that, you can try a locksmith, but I don’t know what they could do.
You could also try getting a factory new key.  If yours is worn (or the
lock is worn), it might just not be unlocking.

As to how to get in through other means, good luck.  You may be able to
gain limited access through the passenger compartment, but it would be very
difficult.  The fuel tank is in that space, and I’m sure that there’s a
bunch of crap between you and the latch.  If you want to try it, start by
removing the carpeting.  Under that are a couple of metal plates fastened
with screw-bolts to the car.  I’ve not had the need to remove these, but
doing so may allow you to get a long rod or screwdriver back to the latch
    to open the trunk.

    Good luck.
