'Grand Theft Auto' game correction

Just wanted to tell those of who are interested… the ‘Roadster’
vehicle in the computer game Grand Theft Auto is not supposed to be a
Miata. It is a Fiat Barchetta. (Someone mentioned it was a Miata a few
weeks ago.)

I did see one looks really like the miata (m1) (not in the first stage
"liberty city" but somewhere else… ) I will check the name of both the
city stage and name of the car called in the game again tonight.

Right now I can only remember a few like the Ferrari F50 (called F19) and
the Ferrari F40 (called Itali GTO) and Viper GTS (called Beast GTS)…

The game is too much fun…. but I wish to see (if there is any add-on
software for it) if Police can be found in Deathmatch mode… like in
    Single mode.

They can’t.  Although a couple of levels have Police cars sitting
    around it the parking lots.

The lag over modem play in GTA is horrible.  I wish I could find
another person on a T1 or the like to play with.  Like the graphics,
the multiplayer (protocols, interface, etc.) is poorly designed.  But
I guess that is for another NG.

Actually, there isn’t an F50 in the game. I can’t tell you what it is
(as I do not own a functioning computer at the moment), but I assure you
there isn’t an F50. How do I know? There is a plug-in program that
changes all of the cars names to what the programmers intended them to
    be.

The Barchetta is in California, and looks a lot like an MX-5. Who
knows… maybe it was supposed to be a Miata and they decided to go with
the Fiat name at the last minute.

Some of the other ‘real’ vehicles include a Ducati, a Harley, several
Porsches, two Vipers (RT/10, GTS). several Ferraris, a Corvette (not a
Camaro Z28!), a tank, a train, a helicopter, a tv van, and a few low
    production supercars.

    Isn’t GTA great? <g>

Helpful hints : IAMTHELAW as your name gives you no police, PORKCHARSUI
is diagnostic mode (press the star on the keypad for all weapons),
    SUCKMYROCKET gives all weapons.

No kidding! I’d like to see a Miata out accelerate the Diablo like it
    does in the game! <grin>

    >Jason (who thinks GTA is still cool without the MX-5)

If only there was a way to lock the zoom feature (that goes up and
down when you accelerate).. darned thing is playable for about 10
minutes then it’s headache city! (see also Descent II)

Hmm. <g> Toss in a Ford 302, affix the appropriate supercharger, add a
100 shot nitrous kit… did someone say Diablo?

There is no Diablo in the game either… it’s supposed to be a Countach.
And you can lock the zoom… just use the diagnostics mode (PORKCHARSUI)
and play with the keys in the upper right hand corner of the keyboard.
Not sure which ones, but you’ll figure it out.

Anyone need some more tips? Learn how to get a Monster truck, train, or
    tank perhaps?

I hate to waste bandwidth on this NMC topic, but this IS a great game
guys. It is extremely violent, extremely politically incorrect, and
extremely contreversial. And almost as much fun as a top down drive in
    your roadster. <g>

There is a F40 I believe, and I always figured that other slow Ferrari
looking car to be a 308 or 328 GTS. But it isn’t. I will post the car
conversion chart later tonight if I find it.

The Fiat Barchetta looks a lot like the ’99 Miata, btw. I think CAR or
some other European car magazine just did a review. Worth a looksie if
you go into Border’s or Barnes and Noble.

To get the tank, you have to go to San Andreas, I believe. Go to the
very lowest lefthand corner of the map… not sure of the name of the
road. You will come to a large hill. It is so steep that no normal
vehicle can clear the front end. If you search around a bit, you will
find a green Ducati in the grass. Take this bike and jump the ramp (and
a small gap) to get on a platform (slam the brakes!). Take the key. It
will say ‘The doors to destruction are now open’. The next step is to go
back to the Marina. Look for the yard that usually has its gates locked.
You will be able to go in now that you have the key. Find the tank, and
have fun. Be careful, as it is not indestructible, and has limited
weapons. Man the turret by holding down the tab button and using the
    arrow keys.

The helicopter can only be used with a plug-in program, I believe.

    Have fun!

Jason (who rarely ever actually plays the game for points… too much
fun to just search around and blow stuff up.)

right, that was not a F50… I did think I made a mistake. But that does look
like something a Ferrari .. an old one??

Could that be the F40? and the one I thought is F40 actually looks more like
    a Ferrari 355 F1 (I found one in red)?

Anyway, since it looks so much a miata (and actually I don’t know how a
Fiat looks like), I will just say that is a miata and I love to carjack
them…!! (but they are not the best in the game when you want to use it
to run away from the cops ):

It is just too much fun…. for some of you still wondering what it is,

Is there any way to save it? Any cheat codes (tired of getting to the
last stage and that darned bus bit. never gotten past it). Is there
any way to bring up what your mission is again as I had one time where
I was pretty sure I completed everything and it just drove around
forever until I got bored and shut it off. ARGH!! Oh, my kingdom for a

I think as you passed a level and got advance, you can always try the same
stage next time to play… I better ask my friend to confirm.

Well, I can confirm, unofficially of course, that the "Roadster" on the San
Andreas levels is based on an MX-5. I know because I was the lead programmer
on the game and I insisted that a Miata be included because I was driving
one at the time ! If you steal the blue one, please look after it, because I
don’t like to see my baby getting scratched…

It goes by how much money you earn…and the amount of money goes up
each time you advance.  It gets really tough unless you are good
enough to get multipliers and keep them from early on.

Well I’ll be damned. I wonder why the plug-in says it is a Barchetta?
It’s not a very well known vehicle… seems like most people (those who
made the plug-in) would’ve figured it was a Miata.

If the car was indeed intended to be a Miata, it must be either a
Monster or Turbo. All of the cars respond realistically, and I’ve yet to
see a stock Miata accelerate almost as quickly as a Countach.

Nope, I don’t feel that is a monster or turbo.. It is actually just what
    it is…

    > see a stock Miata accelerate almost as quickly as a Countach.

I don’t agree with you about this*

  16. admin says:

I have done it. (not by the cheat but completed in a row of 5 missions
(or 6 which I forgot) and then mulipliers became x6 and I could sell in a
Beast GTS to the dock for $12,000 x6 = $72,000 !! Very easy to advance to
    next level!!

Yes, it is hard because if you got caught or wasted, it goes back to x1.
So, I had to be a good boy during that time or had planned a easy route
to go back to one of the Auto shop before starting a new battle in town!!

Wha? You know of stock Miatas that can outrun a Lamborghini Countach?
Really. WHERE, pray tell? My $20k is waiting…

Seriously Vincent, the ‘roadster’ accelerates nearly as quickly as the
Ferrari F40 in the game. If the game play was indeed designed/programmed
to be true to form, the difference should be much more noticeable. After
all, the ‘real life’ F40 gets to 60 mph 5 seconds faster than a stock
Miata. See what I’m saying? The game *was* designed to mimic actual
vehicles, and the performance of the ‘roadster’ seems much more like a
Fiat Barchetta (in terms of 0-60) than a stock Miata. Just my two cents.

They can be found in crates, and it also goes up once you finish
certain missions.  You’ll lose it once you get busted, unless you have
a get out of jail free card (also found in crates).
