In response to your question about which c.s key & bolt to use...it doesn't
matter!

mazda will only ship the most recent part number (which supercedes all
others) as they discontinue stocking all others. As mazda has been working
12 years to fix this problem i would advise you use their most recent
attempt at a solution rather than try to go it your self.

The difference in response you noted comes from the fact that, before
breaking, the cam timing was likely off substantially -- so you were not
driving a 'healthy' B6 variant engine.

Good luck with the rest of the repair.

Regards,

Brian.

- Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text -
In article <19970704145601.KAA29...@ladder02.news.aol.com> noaz...@aol.com (NoaZark) writes:
>From: noaz...@aol.com (NoaZark)
>Subject: Crankshaft failure update!
>Date: 4 Jul 1997 14:56:29 GMT
>First of all...Happy Fourth of July...as of yesterday...my '90A is still
>in the air at the dealership (literally)...the new crankshaft has been
>installed...there was a bit of a wait for the correct main bearings to
>arrive...i heard the car run yesterday for the first time since the c.s.
>has been replaced...what an incredible difference in terms of throttle
>response at idle!!!...this is good!...i saw the old c.s. the key appeared
>to have been inserted incorrectly as was suspected...it just was not
>sitting correctly...so the c.s. has been replaced, the timing belt drive
>gear, the front seal, the main bearings, the harmonic balancer/pulley.
>However...there is an uncertaintay as to whether or not the c.s. bolt that
>came with the new c.s. is the since improved "hardened" bolt.
Actually, the bolt is not hardened...it is just coated with a different
adhesive. Welcome to the wonderful world of B6 bottom end troubles which we
Mazda 323GTX owners have known for years before you :-> It is nice to have
company.
