Best Wax for Bugs

Which wax/polymer/whatever does the best job of keeping bugs from
sticking on the paint?  It is almost time for the bugs to come out and I
want to make it as easy as possible to remove the bugs.  I drive through
the countryside of Northern VA and every day in the summer the car is
covered with bug hits.  I can’t stand it (being anal and all).  I would
be agreeable to waxing at least the front of the car every week if it
would help.

I use the Meguiar’s Gold Class wax in the normal routine of car primping,
and carry a squirt bottle of plain water and a bug sponge in the trunk. At
the end of a buggy trip, I squirt the whole mess down and remove it with
the bug sponge. Works for bird crap and muddy cat-paw prints too.

hey, probably any wax will do the trick if you are religious about it. Trust
me, different bugs have different costic ‘bug guts’ in different parts of
the country. Try your 2 favorites, one on the drivers side and one on the
passenger side, after the first week you have a winner or at least a winner
to advance to the next round!

    Darn bugs!

I do that, too, except I use a spray bottle of Meguiar’s Detail Spray.  It
leaves the Gold Class wax looking like I’ve just applied it.

Oh, and I have to remove the cat-paw prints when Slasher’s not looking.  He
gets really pissed off when he realizes he’s gotta paw-print it all over
again.  I don’t worry about the bugs, but the cat is simply unlivable until
he gets over it, which can take a day or so.

Dave, I think it’s the color of your car that attracts them! Now I have
a very nice RED ’91 (with hard top, new Yokohama tires,Konies, strut
tower brace & lots more) that has NO bugs on it and I would be willing
to trade for your SE and lift the "horrable mess" that you must contend
with. I live in Seattle but I would be willing to drive back to make the
swap with you, if you would like.

What a deal!!  A ’91 for 2000.  Yes, the color attracts everything.  I
live on a mile of gravel road and I can’t keep dust off of ie either.
It is a beautiful color, especally with the Parchment interior and top.
I think it is the only good color that Mazda has put out, plus the
polished wheels are really nice, especially since I painted the calipers
and rotors (not the braking part) chrome too.

Thanks for the offer Bruce, but no thanks.

Damn, the *only* good color? Um, in no particular order :-) ,

    Sunburst Yellow
    Merlot
    BRG
    Laguna Blue
    Silverstone

Montego Blue (yes I know they’re everywhere, but still)

would still love my Miata just as much.

Hum.  I would probably take a BRG or Merlot if white
    was not available.

You are sure correct aout that car!  I love my ’91 RED, but I would be
tempted on a 2000 SE. My wife thinks I should get one, but I have so
much fun in my 1.6 ’91,

The only ones I have seen cost too much ( a little more than my
SS/retirement check) (I’m crying here so you will feel sorry for me &
make me a good deal) So I’ll just have to get along with my poor old RED
    ’91. <grin>

Nah… not a good idea.  My wife has a 2000 SE, so I know something about
    ‘em.

They only come in non-red, and the headlights don’t pop up.  It’s got enough
silly "ground effects" stuff hung on it to keep you from using some popular
parking lots, like at MacDonalds.  (Not to mention all the extra weight of
    that stuff combined.)

You’ve already got the better body style, and it’s in the correct color.
What more could anyone want?  If you want more snap, consider a JR
supercharger, and you’ll be able to run rings around any stock 2000 SE for a
    WHOLE lot less money.

    SE).

Yes, all of you out there, Washington is under a water shortage year. We
are over 11 inches under the rain fall & our lakes behind the dams are
almost dry !   No rain – no water – no hydro-power SO, no wash car!

Thanks for the pic’s  Jerry & the wash idea.
