Can anyone tell me what it will cost to replace the clutch on my AC
compressor? Or is it better to replace the whole compressor?
If I engage the AC when the engine is above 2500 rpm it squeals for a
couple of seconds. It also does this when the clutch engages
automatically during hard acceleration (about 4000 rpm). Appreciate the
help.

Perhaps you might check out the parameters for your belt tension
first, before replacing the compressor/clutch. I’ve had loose belts on
other cars give the same symptons. P.S. My miata only did that once,
when I turned it on for the first time after the winter.
I don’t know, but let me know. My 93 with 35k sqeals and rattles and makes other assorted noises when the ac
cycles on. I have to rev it up to make the noises go away. I usually rev it up anywaywith the ac on, because the
car drops about 25%
of the power with the ac on. Not what I expected for a car that cost me $16,000 a year ago (I could have gotten a nice used BMW
that wouldn’t have a loud ac and could still acelerate with the the ac running). But I’m not bitter.
