I have a 96M and am experiencing the same problem but not to the extent
that you imply. Mine is more sporadic.

If anyone knows what the problem is please let me know.

I have problems with the automatic volume control on my '93 LE too.
I have imported the car to Germany. In Germany this sond system is not
available. Which signal (cable) is contolling the volume? How I can
check if the radio is o.k. or not?

Sorry about the confusion, guys. I read the name off the face plate, and
it says Sensory Sound System. If it is the Premium system and Mazda just
recycled the faceplate, your guess would be better than mine. Nope, no
subs underneath the seats. All of us 96M owners have the same system, as
the only 2 options on the M were the automatic transmission and the
hardtop.

One other note, anyone notice any quirks with the automatic volume
control? IE, it is supposed to raise the volume in proportion to your
speed, so as to combat wind noise (and help you keep rockin' at 90 MPH).
But, when going slow (less than 5 MPH), the volume varies wildly. Anyone
else have a similiar problem? I'm sure its just the speedo connection,
but I figure it would take Mazda some time to yank the stereo out
repair/replace it if necessary.

I have also noticed the same thing happening with the automatic volume
control on my '96M. I agree with you in that Mazda would probable
determine that they can't find anything wrong with it. Let me know if you
find out otherwise.

Much confusion about he 96M sound system. All of the brochures
say its Premium, but the face plate on mine says Sensory. I
haven't found any subs in the seats, and I can't really feel any.
(Although I can feel the door vibrate.) So I think they just
used the old face plates.

But I, too, want to know if there is a CD changer upgrade that
doesn't use RF.

should anyone be able to oblige...

btw, you mentioned have the Sensory Sound System...is this the
same as the Premium Sound System? I was under the impression that
the Sensory Sound (one with the subwoofer embedded in the seats)
was available in previous years, while the Premium Sound System
was its replacement in 96...am I lost?

I may be getting a 97 M Edition and I would also like to know what the
difference is between the two.
