I think storage of aluminum rims in the garage requires oil spray.

I think its smart to spray some oil onto the rims and inside
the wheel rims when storing the cheap aluminum rims that
Mazda provides.

Mazda:  "you manual sucks!"

The Mazda manufacturers do not provide sufficient info
about the car – they really need to rework the manual.

What is recommended tire pressure for the original Protege 2000 LX tires?

Most tires I know are inflated to 35 psi.

But on the Protenza (Mazda Protege LX 2000) model
with rims the tires say maximum pressure 45 psi.

What should I inflate the tire to?

miata audio

I’ve got a problem with (I think) the stock Miata radio with cassette deck
in my ’93. The volume coming from the passenger side door is louder than the
volume coming from the driver’s side door.

Now, at some point in it’s life, the stereo has been upgraded with an
external amp, and aftermarket speakers in the doors. At least I think these
are aftermarket. The amp has no markings on it, no brand name, no power
rating, nothing at all.

The speakers are tweeter-inside-a-woofer kind, (or more likely, tweeter and
a midrange) with the tweeter and the speaker run seperatly from an external
crossover inside the door. I swithched sides on the speakers and that didn’t
help, and I took the external amp out of the circuit, and that didn’t help
either.

So I’m down to the deck itself or the crossover. I couldn’t figure out how
to remove the crossover without cutting the wiring and removing it
completely, but these shouldn’t fail, should they? I did verify that both
outputs on both side do work by disconecting the tweeter and then the
speaker for each side, so I don’t think the problem is there. I have a
sinking feeling that the deck is going, but I’d like to be sure before I go
spend a whole buch of money on a new deck.

Any ideas?

FA: JR air/water INTERCOOLER parts for MIATA

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=337…

For auction, ending 25 Apr 03: the major components necessary to
complete an air/water intercooler kit for the Miata:

1) Intercooler core (some scratches but in fine working condition —
see image below);
2) Heat exchanger (good condition, a few bent fins — see image
below);
3) Water pump to circulate cooler;
4) One elbow;
5) Instruction manual;

The full kit costs nearly $1000. So, do the math, you can buy my parts
and save BIG over the cost of a complete kit from Moss.
In order to complete the kit, 2 1/2" OD nipples need to be affixed to
your radiator overflow reservoir, about 6 feet of 1/2" heater hose,
and in addition, you will need the following from Moss Motors:

051-686 @$118.00 Elbow
051-808 @$25.00 Silicone Hose
051-809 @$20.00 Silicone Hose
051-094 @$0.25 Tie Wraps

Thanks for the bandwidth!

Any questions, feel free to email cwy…@rcn.com.

miata tool kit

I’m sorting thru my 30-yr collection of tools to make a small kit for
a Miata. Are there any non-metric tools needed?

What kind of battery? and Why not Optima batteries?

I’ve seen a couple of posts about Miata batteries, which got me thinking
about the one in the trunk of the ’94 that I just bought.  I’ve looked at my
battery and it appears to be a regular lead acid battery with caps that pop
off for topping up the electrolyte.

I think I understand from previous posts that a Miata should have a sealed
battery.  This makes sense to me since it’s in the trunk and doesn’t have
airflow to carry away the hydrogen gas like it would in the engine
compartment.  However I’ve seen other references to vents that may, or may
not, be functional, and maybe something about hooking vent tubes up to the
battery(?).

Can anyone give me a definitive answer about whether a Miata battery should
or should not be sealed.  And are there vents?  And should they be hooked up
to something?

Also, why doesn’t anyone use a dry-cell Optima battery that can’t leak and
doesn’t off-gas?  This seems like the best answer to me.

Thanks,
John  (’94, A (I think), white with fast stripes, hardtop)

Bra Substitute?

Hello:

Due to the sand and stones they dump on the roads here in New England
region, I’m seriously considering something that will protect the front-end.
I do not like the idea of installing a bra, however, for cosmetic reasons,
and also I think it can potentially damage paint from rubbing. Is there any
bra alternatives out there that will protect the front end of the car,
without being totally obvious? Thanks for any tipes and suggestions.

Sincerely,

Daniel
