Roll Bar Experiences Wanted

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:14 pm

I’m planning on installing a roll bar on my 91 BRG.  Not for SCCA racing,
just to improve the handing and add a little more "aggressive" look.  I am
planning on having it professionally installed.  I really don’t want any of
the "Style Bars", rather a functional unit.  I figure that if I am going to
give up shelf access, it had better do some good.

I was wondering if anyone with a good experience can pass a manufacturer
recommendation my way.  I am looking for a roll bar that will allow use of
the hardtop and will not block the use of the rearview mirror (no funky
mirror lowering allowed).

Thanks in advance.

99 Miata – impressions

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:13 pm

I got my 99′ Miata last week – Twilight Blue, leather, 5-speed. Had to
leave town for a week the next day :*( But I’m back and loving it :-)

I don’t know if it’s the 15" tires or general improvements to the
suspension, but it is a much smoother ride, and the car corners much
better and holds better on wet corners.

The stereo is adequate but not impressive. The headrest speakers will be
missed.

The passenger-side airbag key would make more sense in the glove box. It’s
not the sort of thing you are going to be turning on and off all the time.

Two minor but annoying omissions – no trunk light and no keyhole light on
the steering column. Strange that they omitted the trunk light.

Overall, I am in love. I totalled my 96′ base package 5-speed the day
before Thanksgiving, and decided to hold out for the ’99 rather than buy a
97. I’m glad I waited.

Mazda Question.. WARNING:Not Miata Related.

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:12 pm

Sorry to step into this group with a non Miata question, but I have had very
little luck finding owner complaints or praises for the Millennia.  If
anyone here owns a millennia as their primary car or if you could point me
to a more appropriate newsgroup, I would appreciate the feedback.

Eunos badges?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:47 am

Does anybody out there have any pictures online of the badges, etc. on a
Eunos or Japanese MX-5? I’d love to see the differences…and if
anybody’d be willing to swap theirs for mine, it’d add a sweet touch…

How cold is too cold w/top down?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:46 am

It’s 9:30pm and I just got back from a ride with my top down.  My
thermometer says it’s 62 degrees F. outside.  I came really close to
putting the top up before leaving my house.  It was pretty cold and I
had my hands in front of the heater vents the whole trip. Is 62 deg.
cold or am I just a whimp?  (live in S. Cal).  What was the coldest temp
someone rode with the top down.  I want to hear some lowest-temp
stories!

Re: Seen any 99 Miata Sport Package models yet?

I saw one Saturday, at the Mazda Dealer in Thousand Oaks.  (Got there
before the sales staff, and went through the sales handbook with the
photos of the car and instructions on what to point out to customers.
I almost was tempted to take a copy out with me and post it here, but
decided not to do it.)

There’s no question in my mind that the ’99 is much better than the
previous version (pop-up headlights are OUT, people, and the screw up
the aerodynamics!  and cutesy is for a girl’s car) and I liked the air
dam in the front of the Sport package.  (Beat the sales staff and I was
in a rush to check out the countryside beyond Santa Barbara so I didn’t
wait for a sales guy and a test drive.)  Interior looks fine, and I can
imagine "tenser" (or is that "tauter"?) handling.  However, I will say
one thing: while I consider most of the style complaints on here wrong
(it is NOT bland, and it looks a good deal better than before), the rear
spoiler on the Sport Package is a big minus.  You know how the rear end
of the RX-01 in photos that have been released, is way too "boxy" for a
sports car?  Well, the rear spoiler on the Miata really does SPOIL the
appearance of the rear end.  It makes the rear end look like the rear
end of every-auto-in-the-world that has a spoiler on it to make it
look it goes faster or something.  The Miata spoiler is a real detractor.
Front air dam is great, spoiler in rear is awful.  There’s ONE case
where the styling IS bad, that I saw: rear spoiler on Sport Package.
I think everyone that sees it will agree (so you out there who hate
the styling changes already, will be SICKENED when you see the rear
spoiler.  It does make the rear end look much more bland, and it actually
looks out of place, almost stuck on as an afterthought, like most typical
cars that have spoilers just as an afterthought).
