Hi everyone,
I once owned a 95 Miata 5sp and loved it very much except for one
driveability problem and a few annoying issues. I could live with the
annoying issues, however the driveability problem caused me to sell the car.
Be that as it may, I saw and fell in love with the looks of the new ’99
Miata! I really really really really want to call myself a Miata owner
again. However, since the interior dimensions remain basically the same,
the biggest problem I experienced will undoubtedly still exist so I wonder
if anyone has a solution for the problem. I can live with the rest of the
annoyances if I can resolve just this one issue.
The issue I speak of involves the ergonomics of the front driver’s seat.
With the seat placed so that I can engage the clutch, my right leg (gas
pedal leg) receives no support from the seat. As my right foot presses the
gas pedal, my right leg is off the seat top without any support. This
becomes very tiring after only a few short miles (I drive 45 miles to work,
one-way).
The option of moving the seat to its rearmost position does not allow me to
fully depress the clutch so this is not a solution. This is also
uncomfortable because the seat is so very flat.
It seems that if the front of the seat could be raised, like a 6-way power
seat allows, this would resolve the problem. I have never seen a power seat
aftermarket option, nor would suggest one for this car. However, has anyone
ever seen any adjustment kit to permanently raise just the front portion of
the seat? If this were able to be done, it would add to the car’s
driveability without sacrificing any headroom.
If anyone has seen or heard of anything to help, I would appreciate your
response. Thanks in advance for any replies.
