I replaced the stock door speakers (6 1/2") with an Altec Lansing
component set that I got at a clearance. The mid-bass unit I installed
into the original holes, having just to do a bit of drilling since it
used four mounting holes instead of the Mazda three.
The tweeter I installed high on the door, where the door panel meets the
dashboard. Three little holes was all it took. I angled them such that
the passenger side tweeter fires towards the driver and the drivers side
tweeter towards the passenger. Needless to say the sound is much fuller
and quite a bit more detailed that the original sound.
I also mounted a couple of MB Quarts on the rear deck, using the
technique described by Tony Schreiber on his webpage
(http://www.thenet.net/~dune/miata/sub.html). I am NOT satisfied with
the sound of the Quarts in the least. The Altec’s handle more power and
at lower frequencies with much better sound than the Quarts. That’s all
for now, I apologize for the disclaimer. Automatic you know.
