Crankshaft failure update!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:13 pm

First of all…Happy Fourth of July…as of yesterday…my ’90A is still
in the air at the dealership (literally)…the new crankshaft has been
installed…there was a bit of a wait for the correct main bearings to
arrive…i heard the car run yesterday for the first time since the c.s.
has been replaced…what an incredible difference in terms of throttle
response at idle!!!…this is good!…i saw the old c.s. the key appeared
to have been inserted incorrectly as was suspected…it just was not
sitting correctly…so the c.s. has been replaced, the timing belt drive
gear, the front seal, the main bearings, the harmonic balancer/pulley.
However…there is an uncertaintay as to whether or not the c.s. bolt that
came with the new c.s. is the since improved "hardened" bolt. Perhaps
someone out there knows this information…here is a list of the
generation of Mazda part numbers as they relate to the crankshaft and
bolt.

I was told that the original c.s. part number was:
B61611300A
which was altered (improved) and changed to the following number:
B61611300B
It is my understanding that the most current version of this improved
crankshaft is as follows:
B61711300  (no alpha character).

In relation to the crankshaft bolt…there have been three successions of
this bolt too…in the series listed, from first to most current:
B63011406A
B63011406B
B63011406C (most current)

The part number for the c.s. key…is as follows, with two apparent
changes:
B63011317
B63011317A (most current)

Does anyone have information which would contradict the above…i’d sure
love to know…thanks..

At this moment, the dealership and I are attempting to answer the
crankshaft bolt question before committing any particular bolt, coated in
thread-lock, to the crankshaft. But I half expect that by Wednesday of
next week…i will have the car back…

Take care all..!!

Tires…….

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:12 pm

Is there a general consensus regarding tires…im keeping the stock alloy
spoke wheels ("14)…and need tire advice…are the Dunlop’s the correct
choice for sporting about…I will not be autoxing…just driving on
weekends etc…how about the 55 v. 60 or 65…? Do the larger numbers
indicate a wider tire..any preference for something a bit wider than the
55?

Thanks!

Recall on early model cats and heat shield?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:12 pm

I’m curious…if there was a recall for the catalytic converter and heat
shield on the early cars…seems i read of one not long ago…the clip
which were welded to the stock header snap off when you go to take the
heat shield off (oxygen sensor replacement)…i know Mazda knows something
about this but i dont know if it was a recall or a service bulletin…
Anyone know why the cat was recalled or S.B’d?

Wiper arm gizmo

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:12 pm

I was told that the gizmo on the driver side wiper arm is an air foil of
sorts that seeks to keep the windshield wiper blade closer to the
windshield at increasing speeds…stabilizes it and facilitates more rapid
and efficient removal of water from driver side of w.shield…who knows?

Brake pad replacement

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:12 pm

Hello all,

Does anyone have first hand experience changing the brake pads on a 93 with
ABS.  I saw the web page on Miata.net about the change and it looks simple.
Just worried about the ABS being a factor.

The reason I’m changing pads is that there is a sqeak in the front drivers
side.  I drove the car a couple hundred miles yesterday and it drove me
crazy the whole time.

Thanks for any input

Ron.

HELP! – timing belt and Newton Meters

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:11 pm

When doing the timing…it says to tighten the spring to such and such
amount of Newton Meters.

What is a Newton Meter and how would I go about measuring it?

Thanks for your time.

rollbar

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:51 am

OK, getting ready to buy a roll bar for my ’97 Leather Package.  I’m
assuming that in the installation i will have to remove the bar from behind
the seats.  Am i correct because if not then that rollbar will look kinda
funny – leaning toward rb style V.
Thanks,
Daniel

97 ventilation problems

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:50 am

Does any one with a 97 notice that if you use the outside air vent you
get hotter air than the outside air. I checked with a good ac thermometer
the out side air is at 80 and the vent air is 95 to 100.It also seems
that the faster you go the hotter it gets. My dealer is checking with
mazda about this, but it seems this is the first time anyone has
complained about this. Drove another new one and it does the same thing.
email me if you have any insight into this.
